We exist to demonstrate God’s love through sport.
Our mission is to change the lives of children, youth and adults for the sake of Jesus Christ. To operate sports programmes based on Christian sporting values, where everyone can participate in an accessible, healthy and fun sporting environment.
For everyone, whatever ability, to participate and achieve their potential whether in or outside of the church. SIS brings hope through sport by envisioning and enabling individuals and churches in community Sport Outreach.
We are an approved sports provider through Hampshire County Council.
Spirit in Sport – Sports Ministry
What is Sports Ministry?
Sports Ministry is exactly as it sounds: using Sports to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Sports Ministry takes on many shapes with many sports.
How is it structured?
Spirit in Sport is involved in sports ministry in a variety of creative ways however the major areas are:
- Equipping Churches in Sports Ministry.
- Children's sports camps, after school sport
and Saturday Sport. - Finally and most importantly, prayer!
Prayer is the most important ministry that anyone can undertake. Spirit in Sport is dedicated to praying for the youth of our area and beyond. There will be weekly times devoted to praying for area churches, ministries, youth directors, leaders of churches, missionaries, our sporting teams, etc. This ministry will not make it without prayer.
Is there a need for Sports Ministry?
Absolutely! As many may know, sports are a valuable tool in reaching young people in today's world. Our culture, society and world have made sports a "main course" on our dinner table of interests. Cities get behind their favourite football and rugby teams with a passion that is not matched in many areas of life. There is no denying its place--right or wrong--in our world.
And for the sport lover, it is a fact that sports play a larger part in their lives than ever before. Children/youth/adults of all ages, races, and genders participate in a pantheon of sporting events and activities. And while we can see the problems in an unhealthy emphasis and interest on sports, once again there is no denying what is!
Sports have captivated the lives of the sport lover. With the rise of sports in our culture, we must address this and use it for the glory of God. From personal experience I can tell you that sports have taught me much about life. I learned so much about myself, teamwork, work ethic, perseverance, etc. through my experiences in football and rugby.
Sports are a tool, just like music, arts, drama, and many other avenues, for presenting the gospel. Sports ministry is a valuable tool (perhaps the most valuable in reaching young people).
